Finding a Path to a Joyful Relationship

Janelle Washburne, LCSW, LMFT, CST-S (she, her, hers)

Navigating through the complexities of relationships can often feel like a daunting journey. You may be yearning for more connection and intimacy or struggling to communicate effectively with your partner. As a Denver, Colorado, based licensed couples therapist and certified sex therapist, I am dedicated to helping you find the path to a healthier, stronger bond with your partner.

Drawing from my personal experience of a 28-year marriage and subsequent separation, I understand the emotional turmoil that strained relationships can bring. My own journey fuels my passion to prevent others from experiencing similar hardships.

In my role as a licensed couples therapist and certified sex therapist, I offer you the insights and tools that I wish I’d had, providing the opportunity to shape a renewed, version 2.0 of your relationship. Change is, indeed, possible. Let’s embark on this transformative journey together.

A Compassionate and Personalized Approach to Therapy for Couples in the Denver, CO, Area

As an experienced couples therapist, I bring a unique blend of warmth, authenticity, and straightforwardness to my approach. Understanding that each relationship has its unique dynamics, I take the time to get to know you and your relationship. As your couples sex therapist, I’ll provide specific coaching, feedback, and even gentle challenges to help you and your partner grow.

With a compassionate approach, we’ll explore together how therapy can help improve your relationship in various ways:

    • Enhancing emotional intimacy and connection
    • Cultivating effective communication styles
    • Breaking free from painful cycles and patterns
    • Harmonizing differing sexual desire levels
    • Fostering self-improvement alongside relationship growth

Remember, the goal is not just to repair, but to create a healthier, stronger, and more fulfilling relationship. With the right guidance and commitment, your relationship can be better than you ever imagined.

Are you ready to take the first step?

A Denver, CO, Based Couples Therapist with Comprehensive Education and Experience

Devoted to lifelong learning, I began my educational journey at Michigan State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree. My pursuit of knowledge continued at the University of Denver, where I gained my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree, focusing on counseling for individuals and couples.

    LCSW, LMFT, CST-S

My credentials extend beyond traditional academic qualifications. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Supervisor (LCSW), and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Approved Supervisor (LMFT) in Denver, Colorado. Adding to these, I am an AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists) Certified Sex Therapist and Supervisor (CST-S).

To become an accredited couples therapist and couples sex therapist, I have completed extensive post-graduate training. At the Denver Family Institute, I earned a Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy. This encompassed two years of coursework, client experience, and both live and video-recorded supervision. I also achieved a post-graduate certification as a Sex Therapist through AASECT, which required three years of additional training, counseling clients, and field supervision.

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Couples Therapy

Staying on top of the latest methods in the field, I frequently participate in ongoing training and conferences, such as those offered by AASECT, and extensive trainings with Esther Perel, as well as Sue Johnson with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I am also trained in EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) through the Maiberger Institute and am a PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy) Level 2 trained couples therapist, focusing on attachment styles of couples.

Further, I am an AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) trained therapist and have extensive training in the Gottman method. I have spent a year training in the Developmental Model concerning attachment theory and relationship development with Ellyn Bader and her team.

Understanding that every relationship is unique, I employ a specialized approach to therapy. Instead of limiting my clients to one method or a “cookie-cutter approach,” I tailor my strategy to fit you and your relationship. Utilizing a range of therapeutic modalities, I am dedicated to forming a plan designed specifically for you.
